Cobblestone streets and colonial houses, Ibarra, known as the White City, is one of the most visited cities in the north. Its old town has one-story buildings, painted white, surrounding parks Moncayo and La Merced, very ornamental and well maintained.

The White City of Ecuador, is the capital of the province of Imbabura, was founded by Captain Christopher Trojan mandated by Don Miguel de Ibarra, President of the then Royal Audience of Quito on September 28, 1606, in Carangue Valley.
